Egg Shells is DT Dream’s second release on Profound Mystery, following their split release with outclub in 2021

"...For those of us who grew up with the notion that professional wrestling was a crass male power fantasy, it’s often hard to believe that women - and young women at that - were the driving force behind arguably the biggest explosion in popularity the art form has ever seen. Yet from the mid-1970s, All Japan Women’s Pro Wrestling (AJW) rode a wave that took women’s wrestling (joshi puroresu in Japanese) to the biggest arenas in Japan, all on the back of disposable income from a newly emerging class of young women with money to burn..."

"...As an artist and as a fan, DT Dream is drawn to the emotional and physical extremes that joshi puroresu performers routinely seek to inhabit, depict and inspire. Egg Shells is an attempt ‘to capture, in sonic form, the anticipation of a hall full of people waiting to see Aja Kong hit someone with a bin, the clashing rhythms of bodies slamming to training mats, the hazy moments backstage pre/post match peppered with the sound of camera flashes.’ It's an album which draws deeply on AJW’s aesthetic hallmarks: blood, thunder, athletes straining to stay in the fight, fans in their thousands screaming in unison. But Egg Shells is also a reflection on the layers of abstraction that gathered like barnacles on these performances as they made their long journeys from the halls and arenas of Tokyo to the libraries of YouTube editors and uploaders..."
